The Hypercomics.net blog final post [Oct. 29th, 2007|09:03 pm]

Out for coffee...

And it’s in the deep mud, in the transcendental meditation of mud, mud. Mud.

Guy Clark said we was just sloggin through it, life and death just dancin round in the mud.

This sad sad neglected site was just the earth. The broken fins of the fish, and no call lists and all the times we never heard from you, we’re all just the torrents which soak the dirt.
But you aint’ got mud till you stir it. Stir it and get it between yer fingers and in tiny spots along your nose.

I’m sorry you fast little crawfish, you google image search, it’s time to bake the bricks. A broken limb, a bee sting, waits.
After all, the dirt is better when blowing off the ruffles of a skirt, and science likes his water higher than the wind and closer to the moon.

What goes on above is the last and greatest thing to happen right before you red this.

In the meditation of mud, mud. The Slip and the Mud.

One a those horizontal rules posts again [Sep. 13th, 2007|07:57 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , , ]

I took time away from here to do some big projects in real life, ie: day job. Here’s whats happening with us, for those of you who think I’m just sitting around playing banjo all day:

We have a pretty big unveiling of our most recent mural at the end of this month, and by all accounts, it’ll be our biggest public work to date. I’m getting fairly excited about it.
Dawn’s in a group show at the Alex Haleigh gallery. The show runs through November, but the opening is this Saturday Sept. 15th 6-9 pm. Check out their site for more info.

I just got word from Andrew that one of our Slices collaboration, “Seelenhiel” can be found in the most recent issue of Negative Burn #12. as proof here’s a copy of the cover, wherein my name is listed much closer to P. Craig Russel’s than I ever thought imaginable. I haven’t actually seen a copy yet, but Andrew said it looks quite nice.
In more comics news, I’m drawing 2 stories next month, (as soon as I’m done with a few Harry illo’s) One with my main man Jon Morris, something we’ve been talking about doing for a couple years now. The other is a really great translation of a gruesome folk song for Sam Costello’s Split Lip series. (Hmm folk-comics seem to be my bag next month)

Also, I see that Side A got reviewed over on a site called SuperBlast! and my Hank Williams one-pager was noticed. For a one page deal, I really like that thing. Have I ever posted it? Maybe I’ll put it up for his birthday. In the meantime, you can buy Side A here. </p>

More music [Sep. 10th, 2007|09:09 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

I’ve been thinking about that song I wrote “Orion on the wrong Side” thinking about redo-ing the vocals cause I recorded them at about 1 am and was whispering, so as not to wake up my family. But something better happened, Steve covered it!

Not only did he save me from work that I shouldn’t even have been doing, but he did a great job with it too! Guitar sounds great, way to test it out!

(For those who haven’t heard it, my version can be found on this page )

Sweetheart, you can’t argue with physics. [Sep. 10th, 2007|07:23 am]
[Tags|, , ]

Posted a new song, a cover of Radiohead’s “Lucky”. Earlier in the week I thought I had a nice acoustic version of it, but after listening a few times, I realized it was crap. So being not contented, I resolved to redo the thing. To help me accomplish this mission and get on with my freaking life, the Gods sent to me an old police broadcasting mic. Like a real “Calling all cars” type deal where you gotta hold down the button to talk. It’s perfect for recording vocals. Also you can hear my daughter Mae testing the mic throughout the whole thing.

You can hear this song and many other over on my Virb page.

New song. Pilate’s dream, made for a lark. (can anyone Kargyraa?)
And why didn’t anyone tell me Two Pillars of Salt apparently uploaded wrong and only plays for about 15 seconds? I’m seriously beginning to doubt whether you people click on these colored-word-things (beginning to doubt?)

I love you all anyway, though. Seriously, like universal and graceful love. (And Two Pillars has been fixed and ready to hear at the above link, thanks for asking)

If the embedding above didn’t work you can click here to see an incredibly low in budget and quality video of our most recent project here. Make sure to turn up the speakers as the music really gives it that much needed 70’s science class documentary feel. I swear that tickles me…

Here’s another piece that started as a test of this perspective with rulers tutorial and blossomed into another portion of the five words:

And I’ll be working on the big project later today, which means I’ll try and put the stickam on. Stop in and say Happy Saturday!

noodling in the new ArtRage [Aug. 1st, 2007|10:57 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]

So, to my surprise last night the auto-update came up with a new version of ArtRage. 2.5 came out yesterday, and included a new collection of pretty cool tools, and some real fixes to other areas of the program that had previously left something to be desired (the new layer functionality is fantastic, even if it is just finally up to snuff with PS) I took some time to mess around with it, with one of the words from my five words request:

You can see copious use of their french curves templates, but one of the neat things is that you can make a stencil out of any image you have. That banjo? It’s was done with a picture of mine.

All in all, ArtRage has stepped up nicely.

Also, I bet you thought I forgot about this, eh? (Yesterday, you were right.)

I wasn’t happy with the vocals on my previous effort so I redid em and added a touch of bass, which may very well have pushed it over the edge.

You can decide for yourself by going here and clicking the one called “Two Pillars of Salt”

Two Pillars of Salt [Jul. 10th, 2007|10:08 am]

Nich and I have been having a sort of musical conversation after that little dirty thing I wrote a while back.

My latest contribution is called Two Pillars of Salt and it’s on my virb page. Also, a piece of his side of the conversation can be heard on his virb.

Harry rides again [Jul. 10th, 2007|09:44 am]

New Harry Potemkin at Farrago’s. I’m kinda pleased with this month’s illo, the last few haven’t been my personal favorites and I was a bit scared I had run out of steam.

And thank goodness for those Larkin Charts, It’s kind of amazing how well they work in some of these images.
Plus, any time you get to draw hats is a good art day.

I think I’ve found a gallery management solution that I like. Here’s a test page, let me know if it doesn’t work or you have any trouble. I know the windows are currently cutting off a bit of the image at the bottom, and I have an email in to their support to get that resolved.

(Also egads, I need to clean that portfolio out!)

First panel of a new thing, a re-telling of a South American creation/love story found in Memory of Fire by Eduardo Galeano.

I’m doing the final piece in Infinite Canvas, most likely. And since this book is so chock full of amazing myths and creation stories I’m thinking of adapting a few and making a bigger non linear piece out of it all.

More like 10,000 verses long [Jun. 28th, 2007|05:48 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]

New song, “I was Born 10,000 Years Ago”, a traditional deal which has collected WAY too many lyrics and variations over the years. I cut quite a few out and it still topped off at 5 minutes, so if you can handle my sloppy playing and voice for that long, you can go here to hear it.

I think my favorite line that I cut was “and for Pharoah’s little kiddies, I built all the pyramiddies”. Thats just good stuff… The whole thing is actually giving me quite a tickle right now, especially as things fall apart at the end. I’m sure I’ll be mortified tomorrow (in five minutes).

I should really get back to drawing.
